The Police Service Commission (PSC) in response to the escalating insecurity nationwide has approved the appointment and deployment of new Commissioners of Police (CPs) in key states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ekiti, Benue, and others. Ikechukwu Ani, the Head of Press and Public Relations at the Commission, made this announcement in a statement on Wednesday.
CP Beneth Igwe has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Police for the FCT, having previously served as DCP Operations in the FCT Command. Other newly appointed CPs include Peter Ukachi Opara for Osun State, Olughemiga Emmanuel Adesina for Benue State, Akinwale Kunle Adeniran for Ekiti State, and Mohammed Umar Abba for Adamawa State.
Additional appointees are Abaniwonda Surajudeen Olufemi for Delta State, Ademola Waheed Ayilara for Akwa Ibom State, David Iloyanomon for Taraba State, Abayomi Oladipo Peter for Ondo State, and Hassan Abdu Yabnet for Plateau State.
Dr. Solomon Arase, the PSC Chairman, cautioned the new CPs that the Commission expects effective and efficient leadership, emphasizing that excuses for failure will not be tolerated. The appointments come at a time when the country grapples with a surge in insecurity, as evidenced by recent incidents such as the tragic killing of two monarchs in Ekiti State.
