The Federal Government and the United States have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the training of commanders in the police Special Intervention Squad (SIS) to combat banditry and other crimes.
The Inspector-General of Police inaugurated the training in Abuja, aiming to prepare commanders to address challenges related to kidnapping, banditry, armed robbery, and terrorism. The SIS, created to combat violent crimes, will serve as an elite unit within the Nigeria Police Force.
The training, in partnership with the United States Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, is a crucial step towards the operationalization of the SIS nationwide.
