Labour Party member and British-Nigerian Minister Kate Osamor finds herself suspended from office after drawing criticism for her comments on Israel’s actions in Gaza, where she accused the country of genocide.

Osamor, who represents Edmonton as a Member of Parliament, shared a photo from a Holocaust Educational Trust event where she drew connections between the Holocaust and more recent genocides, specifically referencing the situation in Gaza. In response to backlash, Osamor later issued an apology, acknowledging any offense her comments may have caused.

The Holocaust Educational Trust expressed strong disapproval of Osamor’s remarks, labeling them a “painful insult to survivors of the Holocaust.” The Board of Deputies of British Jews and the Jewish Leadership Council also criticized Osamor for equating the Holocaust with the ongoing situation in Gaza.

Shadow Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds joined the chorus of disapproval, stating that making such an equivalence was not acceptable.
