The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS Commission) has responded to media reports suggesting the withdrawal of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger Republic from its membership.

The Commission clarified that it has not received any formal notification directly from the three Member-States regarding their intention to leave the regional bloc. The leaders of the mentioned countries had earlier announced their immediate withdrawal from ECOWAS in protest of their suspension following coup d’états.

Despite the challenges faced by Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger Republic, the ECOWAS Commission emphasized its commitment to working with them for the restoration of constitutional order and finding a negotiated solution to the political situation. The Authority of Heads of State and Government reiterated the importance of the three countries as members of the Community.
