Former Nigerian international, Daniel Amokachi, has commended the Super Eagles’ defensive prowess in their resounding 2-0 triumph over Cameroon in the round of 16 at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. Ademola Lookman’s stellar performance secured the win for Nigeria.
Amokachi, offering his insights during AfroSports AFCON coverage, praised the quartet of William Troost-Ekong, Calvin Bassey, Ola Aina, and Semi Ajayi for their exceptional defensive contributions.
“The Eagles’ defense has been remarkably solid since the start of the competition. The likes of Troost-Ekong, Ola Aina, Calvin Bassey, and Semi Ajayi have performed exceptionally well at the back,” Amokachi remarked.
He highlighted their collective efforts in making it challenging for Cameroon to create meaningful chances, emphasizing the defensive resilience that contributed to the shutout. Amokachi extended significant credit to the defensive lineup, acknowledging their pivotal role in the team’s success.
As the Super Eagles progress to the next stage, they are set to face Angola, who secured a 3-0 victory over Namibia in the quarterfinals of the tournament on Friday.
