A private jet carrying about ten people, including Very Important Personalities (VIPs), crashed-landed in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, in a recent aviation incident. The incident occurred about 11 a.m. at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, when the jet, registered as N580KR, swerved off the runway and made an emergency landing in the neighboring woods.
Swift responses from firefighters and rescue officials from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) were immediately deployed to the scene to ensure the safety of the occupants. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties or fatalities.
A spokesperson for the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Carol Adekotujo, clarified that the private jet, arriving from Abuja, successfully landed but overshot the runway. She affirmed that no casualties were recorded in the incident.
When contacted, Tunji Oketunmbi, a spokesman for the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau, indicated he would provide further information but had not done so as of press time.
This occurrence raises concerns about the frequency of aviation incidents in recent months, despite changes in leadership within aviation agencies. The incident at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport echoes a similar incident in November, where the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, narrowly escaped a plane crash at the same airport.
