During the technical retreat held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Hadiza Bala Usman, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Coordination, delivered a strong message regarding the commitment of the new administration. She underscored President Tinubu’s determination to fulfill promises made to Nigerians, particularly in making life better and easier for the populace.

Usman directly addressed delivery officers and directors of planning in ministries, emphasizing their pivotal role in monitoring ministerial progress. She urged them to take their responsibilities seriously, as they are the engine room providing feedback and tracking progress. The message was clear: non-performing ministers would face consequences, including possible dismissal.

The retreat also served as a platform to stress the importance of accountability and transparency. Usman mentioned specific areas of focus, such as assessing the customer experience at airports under the Ministry of Aviation. She highlighted the need to examine the functionality of escalators, lifts, and conveyor belts, along with evaluating the consequences of delayed departure times for airlines.

Furthermore, the presidential aide revealed that ministers, upon their appointment, would sign a performance bond with President Tinubu. This bond would outline the expectations for each minister throughout 2024, incorporating key performance indicators (KPIs) that would be subject to quarterly reviews. The aim is to ensure that ministers are held accountable for their actions and that tangible progress is made in line with the administration’s promises.
