The Ministry of Works is actively engaging with concessionaires and private sector organizations to secure crucial investments for the construction and revitalization of an extensive 35,000km federal road network across Nigeria. In a strategic move, Minister of Works David Umahi held a closed-door meeting with Taraba State Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas, business magnate Aliko Dangote, and former Minority Leader Ndudi Elumelu to explore innovative solutions to the nation’s deteriorating road infrastructure.

This private sector initiative aims to expedite a road infrastructure revolution, bringing efficiency, accountability, and profitable entrepreneurship to the operations, management, and maintenance of the Federal Highways. The collaborative effort seeks the active involvement of state governors and private-sector leaders to explore funding options for a comprehensive overhaul of the critical road network that bears the burden of more than 70% of the country’s vehicular traffic.

Minister Umahi expressed hope that local and international investors, along with organized bodies, will seize the opportunity to invest in the expansive national road network. With strategic private sector partnerships, this initiative holds the potential to trigger economic development, job creation, local content development, and overall wealth creation for the Nigerian population.

The Federal Government’s commitment to this collaborative effort is evident in the determination to make Nigeria a continental leader, and the initiative aligns with President Buhari’s vision for national prosperity through strategic partnerships and investments in critical infrastructure.
