United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) aims to enhance the education of 270,500 children affected by the Boko Haram conflict in six Local Government Areas of Borno and Yobe states.
Mustapha Shehu, the UNICEF Education Officer at the Maiduguri field office, announced this during the kickoff of World Education Day 2024 in Maiduguri on Tuesday. The initiative focuses on a comprehensive approach to address educational challenges resulting from conflict, with an emphasis on providing inclusive and quality learning for vulnerable children. `The program specifically targets the recovery of the education system in Borno State, covering Maiduguri, Jere, and Konduga LGAs, as well as Damaturu, Nguru, and Potiskum LGAs in Yobe state.
The “Partnership for Learning for All in Nigeria – Education in Emergency Programme (PLANE-EIE)” is set to conclude in December 2025. This four-year program, initiated with a £16 million grant in December 2021, is being implemented in Borno and Yobe states.
