The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) facilitated the repatriation of 975 stranded Nigerians from Niger Republic in 2023.

The returnees, consisting of 561 adult males, 152 adult females, and 262 children from various Nigerian states, were brought back through a voluntary repatriation program under the care of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).

NEMA provided them with skills training and seed capital to support their self-reliance. The agency coordinator emphasized the importance of legal and proper channels for travel to avoid exploitation, urging Nigerian youths to explore opportunities within the country. He also called for extensive awareness campaigns about the risks of illegal migration.
