NDLEA Notches 68 Convictions, Initiates 12 Rehabilitations in Akwa Ibom

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Akwa Ibom Command, reported securing 68 convictions and rehabilitating 12 cases in 2023, according to Mrs. Obot Bassey, the State Commander. At a news briefing in Uyo, Bassey shared that the command arrested 195 suspects, seized 1,267.24 kg of drugs, and counseled 278 individuals during the year.

Compared to 2022, the command witnessed a significant increase in drug seizures, with a 175% rise. Bassey highlighted the link between drug prevalence and rising criminal activities in the state, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to collaborative efforts and addressing operational challenges.

Looking ahead to 2024, the command aims to intensify its fight against drug cartels and enhance awareness campaigns on the consequences of drug trafficking and abuse.
