Senator Ireti Kingibe has made a stunning revelation regarding the manner in which Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike is handling the ongoing insecurity crises. Kingibe claims that Wike’s actions—or lack thereof—call for a careful examination to identify any possible flaws in the tactics used to address the escalating security threats.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics current events programme, Senator Kingibe stated, “When the Senate resumes, I plan that the (Senate) FCT committees specifically me, needs to sit with the two ministers and the security agencies for them to give us their plans concerning security.”
Senator Kingibe, known for her outspoken stance on national issues, has called for a deeper scrutiny into the FCT minister’s role amidst growing concerns over the security landscape. The revelation comes at a critical juncture when the nation grapples with heightened insecurity, demanding accountability from key figures responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of citizens.
She said further “I know he will be summoned. But whether he responds or not is a different matter entirely. But as the chief security officer of the FCT, he should have a plan.
“He should be able to tell us, the committee, and specifically me, that this is the plan for protecting the people of the FCT. Between him, the police commissioner, and the head of the DSS, they must have a plan.”
Kingibe contends that the investigation should focus on Wike’s policy decisions, operational directives, and the overall effectiveness of security measures implemented under his jurisdiction. The senator emphasizes the urgency of this inquiry, stressing the need for a transparent and unbiased assessment to address potential gaps in the current security infrastructure.
The call for an investigation is not merely a critique but a plea for enhanced transparency and accountability in safeguarding the lives and properties of Nigerians. As the nation confronts multifaceted security challenges, Kingibe’s revelation underscores the importance of scrutinizing leadership actions and strategies to fortify the country’s defenses against evolving threats.
It remains to be seen how this revelation will impact the ongoing discourse on insecurity, prompting a reevaluation of security protocols and strategies at the federal level.
