Sa’adatu Ayuba, a housewife, made a U-turn on her divorce plea, expressing her enduring love for her husband, Jalija, whom she had accused of impotence in a surprising turn of events at a Dei-Dei Grade I Area Court in Abuja.
Having initially sought a divorce on grounds of her husband’s alleged impotence, Ayuba shocked the court by stating, “My Lord, though my husband refused to follow the court order for him to perform his duties as a man, I still love him.”
Jalija responded by highlighting issues in their relationship, stating that Ayuba had moved out of their home and rented her own place. He expressed a lack of love for her and urged the court to grant the divorce.
Presiding over the case, Judge Saminu Suleiman ordered Jalija to take Ayuba back to their residence, providing and caring for her as per his capabilities. The judge also instructed the court police officer to accompany the couple to verify the respondent’s residence. The case was adjourned until Jan. 26.
The case, initially centered on impotence and divorce, has taken an unexpected emotional turn, leaving the court to navigate the complexities of the couple’s relationship.
