A soldier attached to the 35 Artillery Brigade in Abeokuta, Ogun State, identified as Boyi Thankgod, accidentally shot himself dead on Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
The incident occurred during barracks standby duty at the brigade headquarters. The Army denied claims that the soldier took his own life due to unpaid allowances, clarifying that he negligently mishandled his personal weapon.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing, and the Division is committed to ensuring the welfare of its troops.
The soldier’s family has been informed, and his remains have been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta.
