The Labour Party’s National Working Committee (NWC) has given the green light for the sale and submission of expressions of interest and nomination forms for the Edo State election. According to a communiqué by Obiora Ifoh, the national publicity secretary, the process is set to run from January 25 to February 11, 2024.
Key decisions from the NWC meeting include the approval of sales of forms to all interested aspirants from the state who are Nigerians or residents. However, female aspirants have been exempted from paying for the expression of interest form.
The approved fees are five million naira for the expression of interest form and twenty-five million naira for the nomination form. The NWC also sanctioned indirect primary elections, with ward and local government congresses scheduled to elect the party’s candidates.
Key dates outlined in the communiqué include the screening of aspirants on February 14, the primary election on February 22, and the resolution of disputes or appeals arising from the primaries on February 23, if any.
