In Makurdi, Benue State, a young man tragically invaded the residence of retired nurse Mrs. Esther Amali and her housemaid, Mercy Mwuese, fatally stabbing them. The incident occurred around Federal Low Cost on Sunday at approximately 4:30 pm.
According to an eyewitness, the assailant entered the compound and attacked the housemaid, who was in her 20s, while the retired nurse was away. Two conflicting reasons were given for the attack: one suggesting the housemaid’s involvement with a rival cultist and the other alleging a dispute over paternity with the suspected murderer’s friend.
The suspected murderer, who had previously warned the housemaid to cease associating his friend with her pregnancy, scaled a fence to gain entry when the retired nurse was absent. The attack unfolded as the retired nurse returned home, encountering the assailant stabbing the housemaid.
Despite pleas from the retired nurse, the assailant continued the assault, stabbing both victims multiple times. The attacker fled before help arrived, leaving the victims to be rushed to the hospital by concerned neighbors.
On the way to the hospital, the retired nurse, although gasping for breath, managed to provide a brief account of the incident. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries before reaching the hospital. The remains of both victims have been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi, while a neighbor has taken custody of the baby left behind by the housemaid.
