The Nigeria Football Federation’s communication department has issued a statement addressing the perceived mishandling of Umar Sadiq’s situation.

Sadiq sustained a knee injury during the Super Eagles’ match against Guinea, prompting his withdrawal from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations squad. Southampton loanee Paul Onuachu took his place, but a video showing Sadiq training with Real Sociedad raised eyebrows.

Amid speculations and conspiracy theories on social media, the NFF communication department emphasized that proper medical procedures were followed to determine Sadiq’s withdrawal. The statement highlighted that the 26-year-old forward was involved in the decision-making process and had commenced rehabilitation with the Super Eagles’ physiotherapist before heading to Spain.

The NFF affirmed the competency of its medical team, emphasizing their extensive training in sports and exercise medicine, coupled with their high level of experience and exposure to modern techniques and practices.
