In a recent development at the Ikeja High Court, Suleimon Lawal has been arraigned on charges of armed robbery and unlawful association for allegedly using an iron chair as a weapon to rob a woman of her iPhone. The accused, Lawal, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge brought against him.

The Lagos State counsel, Mrs. B. Ojukutu-Shobande, presented the case, indicating that the alleged incidents occurred on October 5, 2022, and September 5, 2022, at Jetty Waterside, Bayeku, Ikorodu, Lagos State. Ojukutu-Shobande detailed that Lawal, armed with an iron chair, reportedly robbed Ms. Karimat Olugowora of an iPhone XR valued at N180,000 during the commission of the offenses.

Additionally, the prosecution counsel informed the court that on September 5, 2022, it was uncovered that the defendant was associated with an unlawful group identified as the Aiye confraternity. Ojukutu-Shobande argued that these actions contravene Section 297 (2) (b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, and Section 2 (3) of the Unlawful Society and Cultism (Prohibition) Law of Lagos State, 2021.

Justice Adenike Coker, presiding over the case, ordered the defendant to be remanded in a correctional center. The court further adjourned the case until February 12 for trial.

This legal proceeding reflects the commitment of the justice system to address cases of armed robbery and unlawful association, underscoring the importance of maintaining law and order in the society. As the case progresses, the court will weigh the evidence presented and determine the culpability of the accused, Lawal, in accordance with the applicable laws.
