Nigeria head coach Jose Peseiro believes his team could have grabbed maximum points, after their 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea in Group A.

Star striker Victor Osimhen netted a header from Ademola Lookman’s cross to level the score after Iban Salvador’s well-placed opener at the Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday, January 14.

Following the match, Peseiro expressed disappointment over the draw but remained optimistic about a turnaround in fortunes as the tournament unfolds.

The Portuguese mentor mentioned in his post-match presser despite the humid conditions in Ivory Coast, his players did enough on the field, which could have gifted them three points.

“We did everything to win, we created many and clear opportunities, and we simply deserved to win,” he said.

“Playing at 2 pm isn’t easy, so the temperature and humidity were not good, but our players managed it very well. It wasn’t easy playing in these conditions.”

The highly-rated coach remains optimistic about the team’s next game and has left it in the hands of a higher power, “I am sad, the players are also sad but God gives and God takes. Next game, God could give us,” he concluded.
