Kidnappers Escalate Violence, Reportedly Kill 3 Victims Amid Ransom Negotiations in Abuja Estate Abduction

Three of the ten people who were kidnapped on January 7 from Sagwari Layout, Dutse, Abuja, are said to have died in the horrific turn of events. According to sources, this horrible conduct may be a deliberate attempt to send a frightening message to the victims’ family who are negotiating the ransom payment.

The recent escalation of violence occurred as it was learned that the initial ransom demand of N60 million per person has been raised to N100 million, bringing the total ransom to a staggering N700 million. It is speculated that the victims, including a 13-year-old high school student named Folorunsho Ariyo, were allegedly killed due to perceived delays in meeting the heightened ransom demands.

This distressing incident follows reports from last Sunday, revealing that the kidnappers, who also operated in Bwari villages, had killed one of the six abducted individuals to expedite the payment of the ransom by the victim’s family.

In response to these tragic events, residents of Sagwari Layout are mobilizing for a massive protest, expressing their frustration with what they perceive as the government and security agencies’ inaction in rescuing their abducted loved ones. Originally scheduled for Monday, the protest has been rescheduled to Tuesday out of respect for Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

Efforts to obtain a response from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, proved unsuccessful as calls and text messages to her went unanswered.
