On a bustling Monday, increased road activity due to the resumption of construction work and students returning to school led to significant congestion. Unfortunately, the day took a tragic turn with a fatal accident occurring around 3 pm near the popular Aso Estate junction in Lugbe, causing a major traffic jam on Airport Road in Lugbe, Abuja.
The accident involved a heavy-duty truck carrying sand, which lost control and collided with a moving vehicle on the busy Airport Road. Tragically, a woman inside the vehicle was crushed in the incident.
Reports indicate that the truck driver survived, but the condition of the other person involved remains uncertain, raising concerns that she may have succumbed to the accident.
The blocked movement resulted in a traffic standstill on both sides of the highway. Efforts to clear the scene involved personnel from the Federal Road Safety Corps, the police, and the FCTA’s traffic management department.
