A mechanic workshop on the Onitsha-Enugu Expressway, across from the Building Materials International Market in Ogidi, Anambra, witnessed a fire outbreak on Sunday. Fortunately, Anambra Fire Service responded quickly and prevented a possible disaster.
The Director of Anambra Fire Service, Mr. Martin Agbili, officially confirmed the incident in a statement released to the press on Monday in Onitsha. According to Agbili, the fire emergency unfolded at approximately 4:30 pm on Sunday, prompting a distress call to the fire service regarding a substantial fire outbreak at a mechanic workshop situated between Bakery Market and UBA on Onitsha-Enugu Expressway.
Agbili stated, “Upon receiving the distress call, we swiftly deployed our two fire trucks and our courageous firefighters to the scene. We effectively fought, controlled, and extinguished the fire, preventing its spread to the nearby bank or the bakery market.”
Despite the intensity of the fire, Agbili reported that the fire service’s prompt response and effective firefighting measures ensured that the situation was brought under control. He acknowledged that some trucks parked in the workshop were unfortunately damaged by the fire, but emphasized that the overall impact was contained.
“The cause of the fire is currently unknown, and thankfully, no lives were lost during the incident,” Agbili reassured the public. The Anambra Fire Service is actively investigating the incident to determine the root cause of the fire outbreak.
