The Henley Passport Index, a global passport-ranking website, has highlighted the strength of passports worldwide, noting that Nigerians can now access approximately 45 visa-free countries with their passports.
The index provides an original and authoritative ranking of global passports based on the number of destinations their holders can visit without a prior visa. This ranking is often derived from exclusive data sourced from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the largest and most accurate travel information database, and is enhanced by Henley & Partners’ research team.
In the recent passport ranking, Nigeria was positioned at 95th out of 104 countries with the most powerful passports. Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Lesotho, Morocco, Benin Republic, and Namibia secured higher rankings at 76th, 83rd, 67th, 65th, 71st, 79th, and 65th, respectively.
Among the 45 visa-free countries accessible to Nigerians, the list includes Barbados, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cape Verde Islands, Chad, Comoro Islands, Cook Islands, Cote d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Dominican Republic, Fiji, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, and Haiti.
Additionally, countries such as Iran, Kenya, Kiribati, Lebanon, Liberia, Madagascar, Maldives, Mali, Mauritiana, Mauritius, Micronesia, Montserrat, Mozambique, Niger, Niue, Palau Islands, Rwanda, Samoa, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, St. Kitts and Nevis, The Gambia, Timor-Leste, Togo, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu are included in the visa-free list for Nigerian passport holders.
