In a groundbreaking development, the Lagos Free Trade Zone has successfully attracted a multi-million dollar gas distribution project aimed at providing natural gas to industries within the Lagos Free Zone and the broader metropolis. The initiation of this transformative project was announced during the groundbreaking ceremony of Optimera Energy’s Natural Gas Distribution Project within the Lagos Free Zone.

The project’s primary objective is to ensure the availability of natural gas, fostering increased productivity and competitiveness among industries operating within the Lagos Free Zone and the surrounding areas.

During the ceremony, Ekperikpe Ekpo, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), hailed the initiative as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s journey towards a more sustainable and energy-efficient future. He congratulated Optimera Energy for its visionary approach and commitment to advancing the nation’s energy landscape.

The project involves the development of a 25 million standard cubic feet per day City Gate Station, scalable to 100 million standard cubic feet per day, accompanied by necessary ancillary infrastructure. Minister Ekpo emphasized that natural gas plays a critical role in Nigeria’s energy mix, offering cleaner and more efficient solutions.

He stressed that the project is not merely about pipelines and stations but about empowering communities, industries, and dreams. Minister Ekpo highlighted the broader impact, stating, “It is about creating a foundation for economic growth, job creation, and environmental sustainability. It is about making Nigeria an economic giant within the subregion using our abundant gas resources.”

The collaboration between the public and private sectors was underscored as essential for achieving the nation’s energy security goals. Minister Ekpo commended Optimera Energy for its dedication to the project and urged all stakeholders to continue fostering innovation, efficiency, and sustainability in the energy sector.

Audrey Joe-Ezigbo, Managing Director of Optimera Energy LFZE, expressed excitement about the transformative potential of the project. She noted that the project, slated for completion in the fourth quarter of the year, aligns with Nigeria’s ambitious Decade of Gas agenda, emphasizing the pivotal role natural gas can play in fostering economic growth.

Optimera Energy LFZE, a consortium of expertise in downstream, midstream, and upstream gas development, views the natural gas distribution project as a symbol of collective dedication to Nigeria’s economic development and re-industrialization. Joe-Ezigbo emphasized that the project goes beyond building pipelines and facilities; it lays the foundation for a future where Nigeria’s industries thrive in an environmentally conscious manner.

By investing in natural gas infrastructure, Optimera Energy LFZE believes it is contributing to a future where Nigeria optimally leverages its gas resources, positioning the country as a beacon of economic resurgence on the African continent. The project exemplifies the power of collaboration between public and private sector players with a clear vision for a sustainable and prosperous future.
