The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) has announced power outages affecting several areas in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The outage is attributed to collapsed poles around Springhill, Uyo Street, impacting Rumuola Feeder 3 and Refinery Feeder 2.

In a statement posted on its social media handle, the company outlined the areas to be affected by the outage, including Rumuomasi, Rumuola, Orazi, Rumuigbo, Rumuorosi, GRA, Waterlines, Oroworokwo, Oromoroezimgbu, Rumuokwuta, and Bori Camp.

PHEDC assured residents that its technical team has been mobilized to replace the collapsed poles and restore the feeders. However, the statement did not specify the expected duration of the outage.

“We assure customers within these areas that supply will be restored as soon as work is completed,” stated PHEDC.

The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company serves as a private electricity distributor, supplying power to four South-south states: Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom. The announcement comes against the backdrop of Nigeria’s persistent challenges in electricity generation and distribution, with frequent national grid collapses causing widespread power disruptions. In 2022 alone, the country experienced eight grid collapses, plunging many Nigerians into darkness.
