The Kaduna Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) reported a tragic road crash on the Kaduna-Zaria Expressway, resulting in six fatalities and 11 injuries. According to Sector Commander Mr. Kabir Nadabo, the incident occurred near Aliko filling station on the expressway at approximately 06:25 hrs on Tuesday.
Nadabo attributed the accident to speeding and reckless driving, leading to a temporary halt in traffic movement. The Zebra 35 Rigachikun rescue team promptly responded, clearing the road for normal movement after conducting the necessary rescue operations.
Initial investigations revealed that a Toyota bus traveling from Ilesha to Batsari, Katsina State, was involved in the crash. The high-speed vehicle lost control, colliding with another moving vehicle, resulting in the tragic outcome. Nadabo highlighted that many accidents on the highway were caused by drivers from outside Kaduna state, often experiencing fatigue.
Expressing sadness over the incident, Nadabo emphasized the FRSC’s commitment to its role in transport management and road safety. He urged stakeholders, particularly transport unions, to collaborate in promoting safety awareness among drivers. Stressing the importance of educating motorists on safe behavior, Nadabo called on all road users to adhere to safe driving practices.
The sector commander disclosed ongoing efforts to engage with media outlets to raise public awareness regarding the dangers associated with dangerous driving, overloading, driving with worn-out tires, and fatigue resulting from long journeys. In conclusion, Nadabo appealed to road users to consistently adhere to safe driving ethics.
