The coach of the Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro, has emphasized the team’s commitment to winning the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. The three-time AFCON champions find themselves in Group A alongside hosts Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau.
Peseiro, a Portuguese tactician, acknowledged the challenging nature of their group, highlighting the formidable competition from Cote d’Ivoire, who boasts a strong squad playing on home turf. He also noted the past achievements of Equatorial Guinea, who reached the quarterfinals in the last AFCON, surpassing Nigeria, and the previous defeat to Guinea-Bissau in the qualifiers.
Despite the tough competition, Peseiro affirmed their determination, stating, “We will fight to win the AFCON, even though it won’t be easy.” The Super Eagles will kick off their campaign against Equatorial Guinea on January 14.1
