Former Senate President Senator David Mark has urged the administration led by President Bola Tinubu to consider reviewing the nation’s security architecture. Mark, in a statement released by his media aide, Paul Mumeh, on Tuesday, emphasized the need for a more proactive and strategic approach to address the recurring insecurity in the country. He suggested that such a review would help identify loopholes and develop effective measures to end the ongoing bloodshed.

The retired General and politician highlighted the recent incidents in Plateau where numerous citizens were needlessly massacred, emphasizing the urgency of addressing the security challenges. Mark proposed declaring an emergency on security, asserting that any steps taken to halt the continuous killing of citizens would be justified.

Expressing concern about the value of life in Nigeria, Mark called on the government and security agencies to intensify their efforts. He lamented the current situation where life seems cheap and urged a collective effort to restore humanity. Specifically, Mark extended his condolences to the government and people of Plateau State, urging residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security operatives to prevent future occurrences.

Mark also called for a harmonious relationship among various ethnic and religious groups in the country. He emphasized the importance of addressing grievances through legitimate channels rather than resorting to self-help, counseling against taking matters to the extreme.
