President Bola Tinubu has reiterated his commitment to alleviating the economic challenges resulting from the removal of fuel subsidy, assuring Nigerians that relief is on the horizon. Since assuming office on May 29, Tinubu emphasized that every decision taken has been in the best interest of the country.
In his inaugural address at Eagle Square, Abuja, after being sworn in as the 16th President of Nigeria, Tinubu announced the removal of fuel subsidy, stating unequivocally, “Subsidy is gone.” He defended the decision, pointing out that sustaining the subsidy was unsustainable for the country.
Tinubu emphasized that the trillions of naira previously spent annually on the subsidy would now be redirected to essential sectors such as healthcare, transportation, education, housing, and national security. Despite initial public discontent over the removal leading to increased food prices and living costs, President Tinubu remains optimistic about the positive impact on key areas of national development.
As the nation grapples with the effects of subsidy removal, Tinubu’s reassurance signals a strategic focus on redirecting funds towards critical sectors to foster overall economic recovery.
