MTN Reaffirms Commitment to Enugu-Onitsha Expressway Rehabilitation

MTN Nigeria has restated its commitment to completing the reconstruction of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway under the federal government’s Road Infrastructure Tax Credit Scheme (RITC). This vital 110km road links major economic hubs in the southeastern region of Nigeria. As part of the Public-Private Partnership signed with the Federal Government, MTN Nigeria began the reconstruction in the Road Infrastructure Tax Credit Scheme.

In collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Works in Awka and Enugu, MTN temporarily opened the Amawbia, Anambra State, and 9th Mile, Enugu sections of the partially completed Enugu-Onitsha Dual Carriage Way for the festive season. This initiative aims to ensure smoother journeys and accident-free holidays for road users.

Assistant Corp Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Enugu Zone 9, Ochinga Ameh, emphasized the importance of effective road management strategies during the festive period when there is a surge in vehicular movement. MTN Nigeria, through its shared value initiative, expressed its commitment to the completion of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, highlighting the impact on all road users and the company’s dedication to sustainable development.

Chinenye Moneke, Account Partner, Enterprise Business, MTN Nigeria, stated, “I can assure you that within the stipulated time frame, this road will be completed.” MTN Nigeria also donated traffic cones and reflective jackets to the Federal Road Safety Corps for their Yuletide duties and pledged to announce the temporary closing after the festivities. The reconstruction project aligns with the vision of Enugu State and is aimed at growing the state’s economy while benefiting the local population.
