In response to the ongoing security challenges in Plateau, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, has announced the commencement of special operations aimed at tackling the prevailing issues. This significant move was revealed during a condolence visit to Governor Caleb Mutfwang in Jos.

Egbetokun underscored the gravity of the situation by directing the Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) in charge of zone 4 to relocate to Plateau, emphasizing a strategic and hands-on approach to address the security concerns in the state. The initiative is part of a comprehensive effort to break the cycle of violence that has plagued Plateau.

During the announcement, the IG called upon communities not to become collaborators in criminal activities, urging citizens to cooperate with the police and other security agencies. The collaborative effort is crucial in dealing decisively with criminals and bringing an end to the persisting security challenges.

Governor Mutfwang, in response, expressed gratitude for the efforts of the police and other security agencies in restoring peace to the state. However, he stressed the importance of identifying and prosecuting perpetrators to serve as a deterrent to others. The governor acknowledged President Bola Tinubu’s delegation, led by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, as a demonstration of political will to address the situation definitively.

While commending the commitment of security chiefs, Mutfwang emphasized the necessity of arresting and prosecuting those responsible for the heinous acts. He highlighted the significance of justice being served through legal processes to instill confidence among the populace and discourage further criminal activities.

Governor Mutfwang reiterated his readiness to collaborate with the police and other security agencies to effectively tackle the rising insecurity in the state. This collaborative approach reflects a determination to bring about lasting solutions and restore peace to the troubled region. As the special operations unfold, there is hope that concerted efforts will lead to a significant reduction in security threats and a more secure environment for the people of Plateau.
