The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has rolled out comprehensive guidelines governing the modification of the date of birth, underscoring a pivotal change that allows individuals to adjust this crucial information only once in their lifetime.
The freshly introduced guidelines, unveiled by the NIMC and disseminated through their verified official X account, bring about a notable shift in the process. Notably, applicants now find themselves obligated to acquire an electronic civil registration and vital statistics system (e-CRVS) certificate from the National Population Commission (NPC) as a prerequisite for initiating the date of birth modification.
To effectuate this change, individuals are required to furnish the Directorate General/Chief Executive Officer (DG/CEO) of NIMC with copies of other valid documents, including identification and a meticulously prepared application letter explicitly outlining the details of the requested modification.
The NIMC has expressly communicated that, henceforth, date of birth modifications are exclusively permissible at NIMC enrolment centers, imposing a stringent control mechanism over this critical demographic data. It is crucial to note that the commission has explicitly cautioned against engaging NIMC license agents for any form of modification, reinforcing the principle that date of birth alterations fall strictly within the purview of NIMC enrolment centers.
This significant policy update by the NIMC marks a decisive step toward ensuring the integrity of individual data records, with the institution placing paramount importance on accuracy and security in managing personal information.
