In an official announcement, the Federal Government has designated Monday and Tuesday, December 25 and 26, 2023, and Monday, January 1, 2024, as public holidays to observe the festive seasons of Christmas and New Year’s Day.
The declaration was made by the Hon. Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, representing the Federal Government. Dr Tunji-Ojo extended warm felicitations to Christians and all Nigerians, both at home and in the Diaspora, on these joyous occasions.
Encouraging Christians to embody the teachings of Jesus Christ, emphasizing humility, service, compassion, and patience, Dr Tunji-Ojo highlighted the pivotal role of peace and security in fostering economic development and prosperity.
Assuring the public, the minister affirmed that the Federal Government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, remains committed to implementing effective measures for the security of lives and property. He urged Nigerians to maintain a heightened sense of security awareness and report any suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest security agencies.
Dr Tunji-Ojo reiterated the importance of discipline during the Yuletide season, emphasizing the collective responsibility to safeguard lives and property within local communities and the nation as a whole.
