MTN Nigeria collaborates with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to temporarily open the Amawbia section of the Enugu-Onitsha Dual Carriage Way ahead of the festive season. Serving as the financier for this crucial roadway connecting Anambra and other South-East states, MTN’s initiative aims to alleviate traffic congestion during the Yuletide.
Dr. Reginald Facah, the Coordinator of MTN Community Liaison Initiative, highlighted the significant traffic influx during December and Christmas, causing considerable inconvenience to commuters and drivers. By opening the Amawbia section and the Amawbia flyover temporarily, the objective is to ensure smoother travel experiences, especially during peak times.
Emmanuel Okereke, Senior Manager Sales at MTN, expressed the organization’s enthusiasm for collaborating with the Federal Government’s road infrastructure tax credit scheme. The goal is to finalize the rehabilitation of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, emphasizing its importance as a vital gateway connecting the South-East region to other parts of Nigeria and Africa.
Adeoye Irelewuyi, the Sector Commander of FRSC in Anambra State, acknowledged the recurrent traffic challenges during festive periods on this road section. He expressed optimism that the temporary opening would mitigate traffic congestions and minimize road traffic incidents. However, he urged road users to exercise patience and caution during their travels.
Concluding the announcements, Anambra State Commissioner for Transport, Patricia Igwebuike, commended MTN for its timely intervention. She emphasized the importance of safety and urged all road users to navigate the route carefully, especially during the Yuletide season.
