The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has reportedly apprehended five individuals suspected of specializing in robbing hotels and targeting Point of Sale (PoS) operators in Calabar. Mr. Charles Brown, the NSCDC Commandant in Cross River, disclosed that the arrests took place in the early hours of Wednesday, following an intelligence report.
According to Brown, the suspects, aged between 15 and 25, were apprehended at various locations with incriminating items, including charms, arms, and ammunition. Their recent involvement in a hotel robbery in Calabar South, where their faces were captured on CCTV, played a crucial role in their identification. The NSCDC had been tracking them, and with the help of a stolen phone traced back to the hotel, one suspect led authorities to the arrest of the other four.
While acknowledging that their leader is still at large, Brown assured that efforts are underway to apprehend him. He mentioned that upon the completion of the investigation, the suspects would be handed over to the police for prosecution.
Emphasizing the commitment to enhancing security, Charles Brown stated that security agencies will continue to collaborate to create an inhospitable environment for criminals. He urged the public to provide relevant information to aid in eradicating crimes and criminal activities within the state.
