Minister Encourages Closer Ties Between Gombe Assembly, Executive for Enhanced Governance

Said Alkali, the Minister of Transportation, has urged the Gombe State House of Assembly to strengthen its relationship with the Executive arm of the state as a crucial step toward fostering good governance. Alkali made this recommendation during his keynote address at the Annual Retreat of the Gombe State House of Assembly held on Tuesday in Abuja.

In his address, Alkali emphasized the significance of collaboration between the legislative and executive branches, highlighting its potential to promote unity and understanding for the overall betterment of the state.

He urged the members of the House to seize the unique opportunity to establish the legislature as a progressive partner, extending hands of fellowship to the executive arm. Alkali emphasized that such collaboration would contribute to an effective budget process, ultimately enhancing good governance in Gombe State.

“I, therefore, admonish you to take advantage of this unique opportunity to make the legislature a progressive partner that extends hands of fellowship to the executive arm. To ensure an effective budget process for good governance of Gombe State,” he stated.

Acknowledging the critical timing of the retreat, Alkali commended the initiative of the House in organizing the event and expressed his conviction that the chosen theme, “Good Governance through Effective Budget Process,” would contribute to enhancing the capacity for quality budget legislation and effective oversight.

Alkali further highlighted the significance of the topics covered during the retreat, including Budget Monitoring and Tracking, Operationalization of Finance Autonomy, Bill Process, Scrutiny and Analysis, and Techniques for Oversight Work plan development. He believes that these topics will equip the members with essential skills to carry out their legislative responsibilities more effectively.
