The Rivers State House of Assembly has decided to abandon the impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara, in an unexpected turn of events. Martin Amaewhule, the Speaker of the House, announced the decision during a session at the assembly quarters in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

The withdrawal comes after 24 lawmakers, who initially signed the impeachment proceedings against the governor, collectively rescinded the notice on Wednesday. The lawmakers cited resolutions reached during a meeting with President Bola Tinubu as the basis for their unexpected decision.

The abrupt shift in the assembly’s stance raises questions about the underlying dynamics and discussions that transpired during the meeting with President Tinubu.
