The Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja’s restored pitch and scoreboards are now formally under the administrative control of the federal government. This is a recent event. The takeover comes after Dangote Group completed a two-year maintenance term under the federal government’s “adopt-a-pitch initiative.”
The rehabilitation project, undertaken by Aron Nigeria Limited and generously sponsored by billionaire Aliko Dangote, had initially been handed over to the former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Chief Sunday Dare. In a brief ceremony held in Abuja, Sports Development Minister Senator John Owan Enoh expressed his satisfaction with the successful completion of the maintenance work and the subsequent transfer of control from the Dangote Group and Aron Nigeria Ltd to the government.
Minister Enoh commended both companies for their diligent work and acknowledged the substantial resources committed by the Dangote Group to the rehabilitation of the National Stadium. He also called for enhanced collaboration between the government and the private sector to further propel sports development in Nigeria.
“As a country, we are indebted to Dangote Group for the huge resources it committed to the rehabilitation of the National Stadium. I look forward to more collaborative efforts between the government and the private sector to develop sports in our country,” stated Senator Enoh during the ceremony.
