Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has granted the appeal of Tukur Mamu, an alleged terrorist negotiator, for access to his personal doctor on medical grounds. In his ruling on the application, Justice Ekwo ordered that Mamu’s medical doctor should be permitted to treat him, with supervision from the Department of State Service (DSS) team of physicians.

The approval comes following arguments presented by Mamu’s counsel, Johnson Usman, and the subsequent agreement from the federal government’s lawyer, David Kaswe, acknowledging the defendant’s right to his own personal physician.

The trial, which involves Mamu’s alleged connection with terrorists involved in the 2022 Kaduna-bound train attack, has been adjourned to February 26 to 28, 2024, for the continuation of proceedings. Mamu, arrested on September 6, 2022, by Interpol in Cairo, Egypt, on behalf of the Nigerian government, is facing charges related to his purported association with individuals linked to the said terrorist incident.
