Transcorp Power Limited (TPL), a prominent power generating company boasting a single cycle 972MW installed capacity plant, has emerged as a key player in Nigeria’s national grid, a decade post-privatization. As a crucial member of the Transcorp Group, TPL has diligently invested in the power sector for ten years, achieving significant milestones since its initial venture with the Ughelli Power Plant.

According to a comprehensive progress report, TPL has successfully injected over 29,574,447MWh (29TWh) of energy into the national grid during this timeframe. This substantial contribution has not only benefited households and industries within Nigeria but has also impacted West Africa positively. The company’s commitment to excellence is underscored by its receipt of a certificate of discharge from post-privatization monitoring, surpassing all stipulated requirements within the designated period.

As of November 2023, TPL has consistently transmitted 2,857,950.40MWh (357MW on average daily), constituting an impressive 8.65% of the total energy supplied to the national grid. In November 2023 alone, TPL achieved remarkable performance, averaging 438MW, securing the second position, surpassed only by Egbin. For the year 2023 year-to-date (YTD), TPL is ranked fourth, showcasing its sustained impact. Currently boasting a generation capacity of 500MW, TPL has the capability to power 1.6 million homes daily.

The report spotlights the commendable rehabilitation efforts of Transafam Power, a subsidiary of the Transcorp Group, which assumed operational management of the Afam Power Asset. The successful rehabilitation included the revival of the Afam 5 GT 20 Gas Turbine power-generating unit, dormant for over 15 years. Since the operational takeover in March 2021, Transafam Power has achieved an impressive 720 days with no loss time to injury.

Under the visionary leadership of Chairman Mr. Tony Elumelu and Group CEO Mrs. Owen Omogiafo, Transcorp Group has demonstrated remarkable achievements in augmenting available capacity. TPL’s capacity has surged from an average of 539MW in January 2022 to an impressive average of 749MW as of September 2022.
