The Joint Senate and House of Representatives Committee on Police Affairs has expressed concern over the inadequate funding of the Police Service Commission (PSC). During the 2024 budget presentation at the National Assembly in Abuja, the committee called on the executive arm of the government, specifically President Bola Tinubu, to reconsider the budget allocation for the PSC, emphasizing the importance of sufficient funding for effective policing.

Sen. Abdulhaid Madori, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, conveyed the committee’s dissatisfaction with the budgetary allocation to the PSC for 2024, citing security as a priority within President Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda. Madori emphasized the commitment of the 10th National Assembly to address security concerns and support the Police Service Commission in fulfilling its duties to alleviate the challenges faced by the police.

Madori acknowledged the challenges of poor budget implementation in Nigeria but expressed optimism that with the support of President Tinubu and the 10th National Assembly, led by Senate President Godwill Akpabo, Nigerians would experience the positive impact of the renewed hope budget. He stressed the significance of critical projects, especially in security and infrastructure, for President Tinubu to fulfill his mandate.

The Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Solomon Arase, a former Inspector General of Police, assured that he would provide the necessary leadership at the PSC to make Nigerians proud. Arase emphasized the need for proper funding to continue the reform initiatives initiated during his tenure.
