Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, the Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), has announced the provision of technical support for the commencement of academic activities in 11 Smart Schools during the ongoing September 2023/2024 academic session across the nation.

These Smart Schools, located in Bauchi, Benue, Ekiti, Nasarawa, Niger, Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Kwara, Osun, and Oyo States, are receiving support to ensure smooth operations. Dr. Bobboyi stressed the significance of adopting innovative approaches in delivering basic education, especially in Smart Schools. He emphasized the need to familiarize education stakeholders, particularly classroom teachers, with the Edtech ecosystem.

The announcement was made during a two-day workshop organized by UBEC’s Digital Resource Centre. The workshop aimed to establish partnerships with Edtech startups, providing essential tools to enhance the quality and relevance of education in the 21st century. Attended by the National Information Technology Development Agency, 21 Edtech startups, and 11 teachers from operational Smart Schools, the workshop facilitated collaboration to leverage technology for quality basic education.

UBEC’s Digital Resource Center is actively involved in a technical support exercise designed to enhance the capacity of Smart School teachers. The exercise includes constructive feedback, continuous capacity development, and one-on-one coaching based on classroom observations. This approach aims to refine teachers’ skills, promote professional growth, and create opportunities for knowledge and experience sharing among educators.
