In a move to enhance Taraba State’s internally generated revenue (IGR) for the implementation of government programs outlined in the 2024 budget, Governor Agbu Kefas has established an 11-member committee. The committee, chaired by the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Yakubu Maikasuwa (SAN), is tasked with investigating revenue collection practices within the local government councils.

The committee is mandated to scrutinize the amount of revenue collected by the local government councils and assess how these funds were utilized. Additionally, Governor Kefas directed the committee to identify local councils that outsourced revenue collection to individuals or organizations. The panel is entrusted with investigating the compliance of such outsourcing with existing laws and recommending appropriate sanctions for any violations.

The committee is expected to conclude its investigations within the next 14 days, with findings and recommendations to be submitted to Governor Agbu Kefas for further action.

This initiative underscores the commitment of the Taraba State government to financial transparency and accountability, aiming to optimize revenue streams to support critical developmental projects outlined in the 2024 budget. The committee’s thorough examination is anticipated to provide valuable insights into local government financial practices, ensuring adherence to legal frameworks and promoting good governance.
