In a recent interview with The Beat 99.9 FM, Lagos, the acclaimed Nigerian singer, Tems, addressed and dispelled rumors that circulated in September suggesting she was pregnant. The speculations emerged after she was seen at Burberry’s Spring/Summer 2023 London Fashion Week show wearing a black dress with a purple fluffy coat and matching heels, leading some social media users to speculate about a possible pregnancy and even question if Future was the father.

Tems vehemently denied the pregnancy rumors during the interview, expressing surprise at the intensity of the speculation. She disclosed that she received threatening messages in her direct messages (DMs), with some individuals questioning her choice to allegedly allow Future to impregnate her. Tems clarified that she has never met the rapper personally, despite collaborating with him on the hit song ‘Wait For U’ alongside Drake.

In her own words, Tems said, “When I heard that I was pregnant, I did not actually think anybody believed it. I did not know it was serious until I started getting messages like death threats, like, ‘How dare you? Of all the people in the world, Future, really?’ And I have never met him in my life. So it’s crazy.”

Born Temilade Openiyi, Tems rose to global prominence in 2020, particularly with her collaboration with Wizkid on the song ‘Essence.’ In February, she won her first-ever Grammy award in the ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ category for her role in ‘Wait for U.’ Recently honored by TIME magazine, Tems was listed among their top 100 for 2023.
