The Niger State House of Assembly, through its Standing Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, has called on the 25 councils in the state to prioritize and execute projects that directly benefit residents.
Chairman of the House Standing Committee on LG, Dr. Bello Alhaji Bako, emphasized during the committee’s oversight visit that the intention is not to witch-hunt but to assess compliance with local government appropriation laws.
Bako appealed to council chairmen to focus on projects that contribute to the socio-economic development of the people. The oversight visit covered Council Areas in Zone C, including Mashegu, Magama, Rijau, Mariga, and Kontagora.
The committee reviewed allocations, internal revenue, project files and designs, due process certification, contractor incorporation certificates, evidence of contract registration, and Finance and General Purpose Committee minutes during the visit.
The chairmen of the visited local governments appreciated the committee’s efforts and expressed their commitment to cooperation for the socio-economic development of their respective councils.
Committee members include Engr. Mohammed Alhaji Haruna (Bida South), Abubakar Suleiman Gomna (Bosso), Murtala Adamu Badaru (Suleja), Mohammed Isah Etsugaie (Agaie), Alhassan Isah (Mashegu), and Mohammed Garba (Agwara).
