The nation faced yet another power outage on Monday as the national grid suffered a system collapse around 1 pm, leaving the country in darkness. Ndidi Mbah, the General Manager of Public Affairs at the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), confirmed the incident and assured that the grid has been fully restored by 6:51 pm.

This marks the third occurrence of a national grid collapse in recent months, with similar incidents happening in September 2023 on two separate occasions. On September 14 and 19, 2023, the grid experienced collapses, but swift restoration efforts were undertaken.

In a related development, Mbah revealed today that the Gwagwalada-Kukwaba-Apo 132 kilovolts (KV) transmission line 1 owned by the company was vandalized. The act, suspected to have occurred around 1 am on December 10, 2023, targeted the line between “towers 23 and tower 25.” The TCN is actively working on arrangements to repair the damaged line and restore its functionality.
