The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has strongly criticized Senator Abdul’aziz Yar’Adua, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, for his recent comments regarding the military attack on Tundu Biri community in Kaduna State. The coalition accused the senator of lacking compassion, pity, and empathy toward the bereaved families and the affected community.

In a press conference in Katsina, the state Coordinator of the Coalition, Habibu Ruma, expressed disappointment in Senator Yar’Adua’s characterization of the drone attack, which claimed over 80 lives, as an “honest mistake” that shouldn’t lead to the resignation of the Chief of Army Staff.

Ruma argued that by trivializing the incident, Senator Yar’Adua had disregarded the pain and trauma experienced by the victims and their families. The coalition emphasized that, as the Senate Committee chairman on Army, Yar’Adua should have been at the forefront of demanding a thorough investigation to bring those responsible for the “heinous act” to justice.

The CNG condemned the increasing occurrence of military errant attacks in Northern Nigeria and stressed that addressing the loss of innocent lives in the region required immediate attention and action from relevant stakeholders. The coalition called on Senator Yar’Adua and other Northern elite to demonstrate empathy, understanding, and a genuine commitment to the well-being of the people they represent.

The statement concluded by urging Senator Yar’Adua to reconsider his stance for the betterment of the affected community and to prioritize the needs and grievances of the people he represents.
