In a decisive move against corruption, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has dismissed five officials, with two others receiving reprimands from the Personnel Management Board of the Lagos State Civil Service Commission. The action follows the ratification of recommendations made during a meeting on August 19, 2023.

According to the Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, the Personnel Management Board’s decisions were confirmed by the Lagos State Civil Service Commission. The dismissed officials were terminated for corruption, while the reprimanded ones faced disciplinary action for unauthorized absence from duty.

The Acting General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Bakara Oki Olalekan, emphasized that the disciplinary measures align with the existing rules outlined in the Lagos State Civil Service Rules and Regulations. He urged members of the public to share their experiences and evidence of perceived misdemeanors to contribute to the agency’s improvement.

Mr. Bakara Oki encouraged road users to comply with the State Traffic Law to avoid penalties, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts to build a Greater Lagos in line with Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s objectives in traffic management and transportation.

He assured the public that complaints would be thoroughly and promptly investigated through various channels available for reporting. Additionally, Mr. Bakare Oki revealed that the cases against the remaining 14 indicted LASTMA officials are undergoing further administrative review.
