On December 8, 2023, students from the Federal University Lafia took to the streets in protest of the prevailing insecurity issues around their campus and the abduction of several students that occurred the previous Wednesday.

The demonstrations led to significant traffic congestion on the highway, serving as a message to law enforcement agencies. According to Comrade Ibrahim Ismaila, the current President of the Student Union Government, the recent incident occurred around 11 pm on Wednesday, with kidnappers targeting off-campus student residences and abducting at least seven students.

Ismaila said: “Around 11pm, an incident happened around Confidence Lodge, outside the university, not even close to the university. Some kidnappers came and seized some phones. They didn’t kidnap anybody there. Immediately, the security CSO and other security, went  there but before they reached there all of them (kidnappers) ran away, so they dispersed. “In about two to one hour, another kidnapping occurred in Gwandu area, another residential area close to the school area. That was where they took almost seven students. The school security called back some of the soldiers. The soldiers came but they couldn’t locate them. So the students have been agitating and angry.  It has been happening, so the students decided to exercise their rights. As I am talking to you right now, I think there are measures put in place by the school and soldiers have been deployed.”
