The national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the Nigeria Police Force to promptly apprehend both the sponsors and perpetrators responsible for the post-election violence in Kogi state. In an official statement titled “Participating In An Election Is A Democratic Right, Boycotting An Election Is Also A Democratic Right,” the APC emphasized the importance of police intervention to address the troubling incidents.

The party specifically cautioned individuals, including the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Dino Melaye, and the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Murtala Ajaka, against making statements that could potentially incite further unrest. Felix Morka, the APC’s national publicity secretary, expressed concern about the potential escalation of violence in Kogi due to their actions and utterances.

Morka highlighted the decision of Dino Melaye not to challenge the election outcome in court, citing a lack of confidence in the judiciary. Additionally, he mentioned a reported attack on the secretary of the Election Tribunal, Mike Umar David, linking it to the opposition SDP. Condemning these acts as barbaric and undemocratic, Morka underscored the urgent need for peace and security in Kogi.

The APC’s statement welcomed the ongoing investigation by the Kogi Police Command into the alleged attacks and urged a thorough and expeditious process to bring the perpetrators and sponsors to justice.
